Mr. Dave Hugg - Band

Today's Homework:

Every class has their share of "SUPERSTARS" who play their instrument very well.  The biggest difference between these strong students, and students that struggle along is the amount of time they have spent practicing their instrument.

While homework is only formally assigned when written work has not been completed during class time.  There are not enough instruments available for every student to take an instrument home every night, their band students should try to take home their instrument at least once a week to reinforce the skills learned in class, learn new songs on their own and have fun exploring.

Performance tests are assigned every second week in class.  Students are able to achieve a passing grade on these small tests by keeping up in class.  The same student will excel, and achieve a high grade by taking home their instrument and practicing regularly.

Students usually get out of music class the equivalent of what they put into music class.  The more time they spend "playing" their instrument, the better they will get.  Playing a musical instrument is a skill, which needs skill development.  They can easily develop their skills through regular practice on their instrument.

CIS has an inventory of instruments for use by the students in the classroom, and at home.  Students are encouraged to sign out an instrument at the end of the day, and ensure that they have it back in time for school the next morning so that the other students that use the instrument during class do not have to go without.
